Perry the Turkey

As if we do not have en0ugh pets...4 birds, one dog, one cat, one guinea pig and two chinchillas and now we have added a wild turkey to the mix. Yep...Ward and I were enjoying a long weekend in Chicago when a text message from Nolan came through with a photo of a tiny bird. It looked as if it were a baby duck. Very cute, but I thought this was some kind of joke. It turned out that Nolan found an abandoned baby Turkey on our door step. He googled "baby turkey" and estimated it to be about 2 days old. The mother turkey was now where in sight. Naturally our animal lover decided be become Mr. Mom. He borrowed a warmer from our neighbor (who was nice enough to lend a hand and go by supplies) and for about two weeks this little turkey was living in a box in Nolan's room. Everything was going fine until Perry learned he could jump out of the box and would have the run of the house. Perry's favorite thing is to snuggle up under Nolan's chin and follows him everywhere.

We still have him and he's a lot bigger now. We keep him in a dog kennel on our back porch during the night so predators don't gobble him up. During the day he wanders around the yards eating bugs and snoozing on the patio. He goes back and forth between our house and our neighbors. He cries out when there is no one around...then comes running if he hears us. Perry the trukey is a pretty good flyer now and it is not unusual for him to go on our roof to get a view. We found him in our neighbors garage sitting on a shelf watching Bill work on his car. Our neighbor Bill finds him quite amusing. We do too, but for how long? His poops are getting bigger and he is getting larger. This summer is truing out to be truly interesting.

No Thanksgiving Jokes Please!

Stay safe Andra!

Kathy
